| Interview
with Scott Patt, Creative Director of Converse Are there any designs in the project you particularly enjoy? Wow, that's tough. There are so many great pieces of art. To name a few out of the 100: Jeremyville, Camilla Engman and Megan Whitmarsh's designs are graphically beautiful. Dr. Romanelli and Tim Liles's designs are just plain smart! The most directly connected and impacting is definitely Michael White's tribute to his late brother Dondi White, a founding pioneer of graffiti writing from the late '70s and '80s. |

Degrees
of Hope, W34th st and Broadway, Penn Stn. I'm in a new book called Grab Bag Book, by Ethan Bodnar. How It Works (taken from Ethan's site): Artists from around the world have been invited to contribute to the book. Each of them will receive a creative task picked at random the Grab Bag. It could be a photo digitally manipulated photo from their youth. Or it could be an illustrated editorial about anything. They might have to design a building or illustrate what they had for breakfast. The only rule is that your creative task can’t be from your field of work or your area of expertise because the book is about learning to do new things with your creativity and exploring new ways of expressing yourself. Furthermore, each artist will have the option to also contribute a piece of their work that comes from the area of expertise. It could be something already created or something made specifically for the book. my creative task was: Represent Statistics other than through a graph or other conventional means Posted April 16th, 2008 |

![]() Graniph New artist TADO (above) (interview by Graniph Sydney) www.tado.co.uk TADO is Mike and Katie, two very hardworking people who do graphic design, illustration, animation, toy design, and a bit of everything in between. They are based in Sheffield UK, enjoy eating ice cream, and playing with their dogs. The pair work across a huge range of projects for both huge and tiny clients, from logos, animation and web design through to customised cars, designer toys and homeware! The TADO website is a lot of fun, so remember to pay it a visit. Below, Mike and Katie kindly spent a few moments with us... Q: Five words/images to describe yourself. Excitable, colourful, sleepy, happy, hungry. Q: Where do your ideas come from? We have no idea! We don't really do any specific research as such - we just take in stuff day to day, all the time in a subconscious way. Then something will pop back out again as an idea for a piece later down the line. Q: What would you be if you weren't an illustrator? Mike would probably be a mechanic of some kind - he loves to tinker with stuff. Katie is convinced she would be a baker! Q: Have you been to Sydney? What's your image of Sydney? Neither of us have been to Sydney! :( We've met a few people from Sydney before and they've all been very nice! Our image of Sydney would be sunny, with happy folk drinking beer and wearing lots of Graniph and Jeremyville t-shirts! :D There'd be koalas as big as people too. And kangaroos - they'd be even bigger! Oh, and probably some noisy drunk British people on their travels! |

Feb 8th thru Mar 2nd, 2008 Opening Reception: Friday, February 8th, 7:00PM-9:00PM 49 Bogart Street Unit 1G, Buzzer 22 Brooklyn, New York United States 11206 Here's what Ad Hoc Gallery wrote: Pop Subversion contains a healthy dose of both established and emerging artists from the realms of street art, pop surrealism, lowbrow, illustration, print making, tattoo and so much more. Through this group exhibition, promising young artists will have the chance to exhibit side by side with some of the more established artists in these fields. This mixture will allow the viewer to experience a plethora of varying styles and techniques rising out of this powerful New Contemporary movement in art. At the center of this exhibition lies the original artwork of Juxtapoz founder (and quite arguably the 'father' of this New Contemporary movement in art) Robert Williams! Participating artists include: aiko, lisa alisa, lisa bloodgood, john breiner, wayne coe, molly crabapple, brendan danielsson, camilla d'errico, elbowtoe, ian fagan, fawn fruits, gil, joshua hagler, aaron horkey, kenichi hoshine, jeremyville, sarah joncas, lady pink, benjamin lacombe, lauralee, kris lewis, brian life, francesco locastro, carlos nine, pagan, peripheral media projects, jenn porreca, martina secondo russo, chris stain, robert steel, elisabeth timpone, connie wang, joe vaux, robert williams, jaeran won, genevive zacconi |

If
You Could...Fat Cat, help the Alley Cat! Invited by Alex and Will at If You Could, to be a part of this show, for Design-Event 07 in Newcastle, UK. The brief was, if you could design anything to make our life better, what would it be? I messed with the Fat Cat's DNA to help the Alley Cat... The designs are printed on actual Blue Print paper, which I remember well from my Architecture days at Uni, fond memories of chemicals and giant blue print machines in dark underground chambers. This is drawn in memory of Anita Roddick.... someone who made a difference. others in the show include: Adam Hayes Anthony Burrill Andrew Rae Demelza Hill Emmi Salonen Hyperkit James Goggin Jasmine Razhanan Jeremyville Pierre Vanni Rob Ryan Thomas Matthews www.ifyoucould.co.uk |

Translate - Beijing I've been invited to Beijing for this event, here is the text from the Tiger Translate site: 'Following successful global showcases in New York and Berlin, Tiger Translate shifts its attention to the cradle of Beijing's burgeoning arts scene. On Saturday, 14th July, the 798 Space, Dashanzi Art District, Beijing will play host to Tiger Translate Beijing Event using the theme of "Gold". Showcasing the works of 25 emerging Asian artists, Tiger Translate will also bring in established names Jeremyville (Australia), Ben Frost (Australia), Jon Burgerman (UK) and Luke Bennett (Germany). It will be the very first time these artists have visited the country and they will be collaborating with cornerstone Chinese artists Li Qiu Qiu, Nie Jun and Song Yang. Supported by some of China’s most eclectic musicians, this creative broth cooking in the Tiger Translate kitchens promises to be a feast for hungry eyes and ears. |

each) Preview of the new full colour vinyl wallpaper for the innovative French company Domestic, Paris. Artists to work for Domestic Include Laurent Fetis, Fafi, Genevieve Gauckler, TADO, Jeremyville, and Kuntzel+Deygas, the creators of the Colette Dog mascot. The concept of the vinyl packs is that you create your own story, on glass, on a wall, in your home or office. My composition is above,(about 2.3m wide in actual size) using all the elements of the 7 sheets (except for all the letters), but the idea is that you can create your own story from these sheets. THE
VADER PROJECT
75 artists customize Darth Vader helmets in landmark gallery exhibition for Star Wars Celebration IV , May 24th to 28th, 2007 Los Angeles Convention Center May 16, 2007 (Los Angeles, CA)-- The Vader Project, a re-imagining of the iconic Darth Vader helmet by some of today’s hottest pop and underground artists, will have its World Premiere May 24 to 28th, 2007 at Star Wars Celebration IV, a landmark event being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars. The five-day event is expected to attract more than 25,000 Star Wars fans from around the world (www.gencon.com/2007/swciv). The Vader Project is presented by Master Replicas Inc. and curated by Dov Kelemer of DKE Toys. Kelemer gathered 75 of the hottest underground and pop surrealist painters, artists and designers to participate. Each artist was given a Master Replicas 1:1 scale prop replica of the actual Darth Vader helmet used in the Star Wars films. Each helmet served as a blank canvas for each artist to paint, design, mash up, and customize. Artists include Shag, Paul Frank, Mr Cartoon, Tim Biskup, Frank Kozik, Marc Ecko, Amanda Visell, Tim Biskup, J. Otto Seibold, Jeremyville, Gary Baseman, Joe Ledbetter, Robbie Conal, Jeff Soto and many more. Many of these artists jumped at the chance to lend their talents to one of the most iconic pop culture characters in film history. Keith Bornholtz, Vice President of Consumer Marketing for Master Replicas, said, "We are pleased to provide this excellent canvas to this group of talented international artists and introduce them to their new intergalactic fans." "This could not be a timelier event," Kelemer said. "The pop surrealist/lowbrow/graffiti/designer art scene is exploding around us. A canvas is what you make it, from bunnies to cows to toilet seats. The ‘platform’ group show has been around, and we have seen it all." Ugly Doll co-creator David Horvath said it best: "It’s Darth Vader!!! It’s the most recognizable character in the universe. After this exhibition we don't ever need to be in a platform show again." After the premiere at Star Wars Celebration IV the plan is for exhibition to travel to museums, galleries, and events around the world. The helmets will then be offered publicly at auction. Details will be announced later. Master Replicas (www.masterreplicas.com) has created the highest quality 1:1 and scaled prop replicas for Star Wars. Using all the latest technologies and often scouring the Lucasfilm Archives, the company has released some of the finest and most sought-after movie-related collectibles. Curator Dov Kelemer, founder of DKE Toys (www.dketoys.com), is one of the largest designer vinyl and art-toy distributors in the world, exclusively representing over 50 companies, artists, and designers. Having started his business selling Star Wars memorabilia more than 15 years ago he has finally found a way to meld both his passions. More Information including a complete artist list available soon at www.thevaderproject.com StarWars.com story here http://www.starwars.com/community/event/celebration/news20070516.html
