Raymundo Ceramic - Jeremyville x Standard Hotel
Raymundo was launched as the official Art Basel 2016 mascot for the Standard Hotel, Miami. Continuing the ongoing tradition of the Standard Hotel collaborating with artists to produce a product (such as the KAWS lightbulb), Studio Jeremyville was commissioned to produce an edition of 200 functional sculptures. Raymundo is also the first figure in the new Jeremyville Homewares series. 8 inches tall, Raymundo functions as a container when opened. Is it a sugar bowl? Maybe. A container for illicit pills? Most likely. Does it hold today's sunshine for any dark days ahead? Unequivocally.
The concept of Jeremyville Homewares is to bring contemporary pop art into the modern home, and add surrealism, playfulness, contemplation and optimism into our daily life. Most of the characters for the homewares series will originate from my 'Community Service Announcements' (CSA) project, and echo some of my dialog from that ongoing series of public installations.
